While losing muscle mass may be a function of aging, that doesn’t mean there is nothing you can do about it. You can actually slow aging with resistance band training!
Bill and I refuse to accept changes as limitations and trust me; there are workarounds to some of your biggest aging frustrations if you are willing to change your habits and do the work.
In my 20s, I did some hiking in Europe and saw legions of people in their 80s literally hiking across the Alps. They were healthy, happy, and living their best lives.
If they can do it, so can we!
Understanding how to modify exercise and nutrition is essential to help you live younger, longer and better, otherwise known as being an Active Ager. Over the next five weeks, I will am sharing some of my BEST tips on Instagram this week. So follow along HERE:
Resistance Training is quite literally the gold standard for slowing down muscle loss and being an Active Ager and Grandparent.
Resistance training stresses your muscles; your body responds by telling those muscles to grow bigger and stronger. You can use resistance bands or dumbbells or incorporate simple body-weight exercises.
Maintaining muscle mass is vital for mobility, balance, and overall functionality. It also reduces your risk of fractures and osteoporosis. Your goal should be to stay limber and flexible so you don’t hobble around looking and feeling old.
Resistance training also bolsters metabolism, helping you manage a healthy weight and stave off age-related metabolic decline.
I like to use these inexpensive resistance bands and the exercise guide. They are easy to pack for travel and a few minutes daily can help preserve and build muscle. These are the ones I use.
Active aging means you get to do what you LOVE longer, so be proactive and don’t wait for something to happen that forces you to act!
For us, being Active Grandparents is hugely motivating!
