Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until well blended.
  2. Add the lightly beaten eggs and vanilla extract, beating well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and combine well.
  4. Sift 2 3/4 cups of flour mixture over butter mixture and beat with the paddle attachment of a stand mixer or a wooden spoon until the flour is incorporated and dough forms a ball.

  9. Dip cutters into flour and cut your shapes.
  10. Place cookies 11/2 inches apart on greased baking sheets or non-stick baking mats.
  11. Bake 8-12 minutes or until cookies are golden and beginning to brown around the edges.
  12. Cool for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  13. Frost and decorate!

Recipe Notes

**Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to a week. I sometimes make it a home and bring it to my daughters to make cookies.

Use my decorative cookie icing recipe to decorate these!
