Banana tea for sleep is great!
Hi, Thanks for the recipe! Do we need to use the green almost ripe banana?
The ripened bananas work best. Thanks for your comment!
Some say the skin some say the bandanna and does it need to be organic?
Non-organic bananas are heavily sprayed with chemicals. If using the peels organic is always the best choice.
Can I use cinnamon stick an vanilla flavor I. The banana tea
Do you boil the hole banana?
Just the peel for this recipe. Save the bananas for another use.
green is not a ripe banana…. brown is ripe!
Thanks for your comment Shelly. There are different degrees of ripeness in bananas. I prefer mine not brown. You can use the peels from brown or green bananas.

The riper you allow the banana to get, the thinner and sweeter the peel becomes.
Yes!
How soon before bed should you drink this? Will this affect my GERD?
The sleep tea shouldn’t affect GERD. I do have a suggestion you may want to consider for GERD. Be sure to chew each bite of food 32 times and skip drinking liquids with meals. The sleep tea can be sipped before bed. Let me know if this helps.

What is best for chronic UTI and yeast infection?
There are probiotic blends that can help. Look for at least 10 beneficial strains of bacteria and 10 billion cfu count. Also no baths, only showers. Be sure to properly hydrate, 10oz of filtered water an hour, x 10 hours a day. Add unsweetened cranberry concentrate to the water. Start the day with warm lemon water. Limit caffeine, alcohol, artificial ingredients and sugar.
Banana tea very good for sleeping relaxing the body
Even when they say organic how do you know for sure? I love frozen strawberries, but now they say strawberries have the most insecticide. I love eating healthy, but sometimes Im not sure I am. Im going to try the tea tonight. I use almond milk and stevia extract or maybe honey in my other teas. Ty Patty
It is frustrating to wonder if organics really are organic. Best to put the odds in your favor and buy organic and rinse well too!
The banana peel sleep tea is quite delicious.
Can you reuse the bananas, or freeze them and reuse? Can you make a small pot and refrigerator for later?
Yes, save the bananas for another use. Tea can me made ahead and used for several days. Rate this recipe and let me know what you think!
Is there a banana diet tea? I saw something of banana peel, bag rice and a type tea like black or green,Oolong and you boil it all together??
Thank You Dawn,
That sounds interesting. I try to avoid white rice because of the potential arsenic content. The sleep tea is quite effective.
Be Well.
Kristen
Hi. After boiling and making tea, is the banana still okay to eat skin and flesh? Thanks
The tea is only made from the banana peel. You save the peels from organic bananas to make the tea, and eat the fruit before you make it.
Let me know how it turns out.

So the properties dont dissipate when not consumed right away?
Georgie the tea keeps for up to a week in the refrigerator.
Thanks! Just the recipe & info I was looking for.
For chronic UTI infections I highly recommend Garden of Life Dr formulated probiotic Urinary Tract 50 billion. I suffered for decades before using this. The results were immediate and I mistakenly only took 1 daily though 2 a recommended.
I am a big fan of both Garden Of Life and New Chapter brands. This is very good to know. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve recently learned that probiotics for UTI that work the best are encapsulated to prevent being digested before reaching the gut. I’ve been using one that has made such a huge difference in my entire gut microbiome .
I will be trying this tonight
Sonya,
Its surprisingly delicious and comforting. Here is the linked to the spiced version which is mind blowingly good. https://theculinarycure.com/spiced-banana-peel-sleep-tea-recipe/

Do you have to add the milk to get the benefit of this tea? By chance would a drizzle of honey be equivalent? Thank you!!!
Cow’s milk can be inflammatory to the body so we would recommend a nut milk instead. Honey is ok!
Is it okay to drink the banana tea cold as well
Is it okay to drink the the tea room temperature as well
Hi silly question but do we use the peel or the whole banana? Thanks
Just the skin for the tea. 🙂
I’m going to try the tea tonight. Do I use the whole organic banana, and then strain?
HI! You can just use the skin of the banana.
Ok cool thx! I’ve read all sorts of recipes, so I figured I would double check.
Ok thx
Is it healthy to eat the skin after boiling
Best to toss the peels, they will be tough to eat and the nutrients will be absorbed in the water when you make the tea.
Did I miss? No cows milk?
And are honey/syrup mandatory?
With just banana peels, are all benefits there?
How many peels, how much water. I don’t want to dilute. Thanks
The recipe explains in detail how to make the tea. You can add sweetener or milk if you choose. The peels contain potassium and magnesium which have sleep promoting properties. You can use the tea in concentrated or diluted form. Enjoy!

I cut off the ends and sliced the banana into 8 pieces and boiled it for 10 minutes.
……Is the cooked banana edible after I made the tea? …….
We recommend just using the peel for the tea, but if you did the whole banana you can let it cool and blend it into a smoothie, or freeze it and mix it into a banana gelato. We try not to waste anything!
Can I drink banana tea in the afternoon before sleep
Sure! Rate this recipe and let us know what you think!
Can I refrigerate peels and use them at a later time?
Absolutely! They will turn brown, but they will keep for about 3 days in the refrigerator and still retain health benefits when made into tea.
how long does the tea last once you make it? Does it need to be refrigerated?
3-5 days in the fridge! Thank you for the question.
Not a very pleasant taste but trying it to see if it helps with sleep.
Comment back tomorrow and let me know!
I did mine with a bit of maple syrup and flax milk.It is delicious this way.
Great suggestions! I love this wonderful version of a sleep tea. Thank you for sharing. As always be sure you are using organic bananas.
Can diabetics drink this??
YES! Banana peel tea is good for diabetics. And even eating the peel is beneficial for diabetics.
Can I prepare this banana tea in the pressure cooker and if so are 5 minutes cooking time enough?
Yep!
Can hypertensive drink it too?
It’s high in magnesium and potassium which aids sleep. As long as neither of those is a problem for you and the bananas are organic you should be fine.
As always, it is best to consult your physician if you have any medical concerns.
How much time is needed to drink the tea before bedtime
30-60 minutes before bed is optimum!
Especially if you’re hypertensive. It brings your bp down. I’ve been using it as my emergency bp control for over a decade n you’ll be amazed how great this is. I’ve been telling friends n family including Doctors n they can’t believe the magic of this Tea. Drink up. Don’t forget to check your potassium from your Doctor from time to time.
It is good!!
Hi Kristen, Thank you soo much for the recipe. I myself have been working on healthy life style and healthy food habits and this has been an add on to me. Its really wonderful when you make special attention to take care in using the peels of organic banana. Banana is such a rich source of potassium and also magnesium and works wonders with digestion. Its great that we can use the peel as well. Thank You again and keep posting healthy recipes. Eating health=living healthy=enjoying good quality life.
Can one dry the banana peel to preserve it?
You can freeze the banana peel for later.
Do you know any remedies for skin inflammation such as psoriasis?

If I can’t find organic bananas will washing the skin suffice for using the non-organic bananas. Is the banana tea calorific?
You can wash the peel thoroughly to minimize pesticide consumption – organic is always preferred. Banana tea is not a significant source of calories.
Can gallstones be flushed out and if so, how?
I can’t get organic bananas where I live but I have been eating a small ripe banana before bed time and this is helping me sleep. However, now I’m presented with constipation because of the banana. I take magnesium every night but it’s not helping. I really would appreciate any advice on what I could take to overcome this so that I can continue with my banana for sleep.
Instead of a banana before bed try making a medicinal strength cup of chamomile tea. Use 2 teabags and steep in very hot water for 3-5 minutes and then sip. I also encourage you to add 1 tsp. Of ground raw flax seed to a cup of water 2 times a day. I always suggest staying properly hydrated as well. 8-10oz of water every hour for 10 hours each day, starting with a glass of water upon rising. We slice the bananas in to chips, peel and banana, and boil that with some honey and a few drops of vanilla in the water. Improves the taste quite a bit.

I see in the photo you have an overripe banana.. will that work just as well? Tried doing that and the tea was black in hue. So didn’t drink it
The tea is always very dark. It’s also loaded with potassium and other nutrients. Just make sure you use organic bananas and wash the peels before cooking.
Do I have to take the banana peel every night in order to sleep.
Banana Peel Sleep Tea can be enjoyed nightly. There are many components to a good nights sleep.
Make sure your room is cool, dark and quiet. It’s also important to get off your screens at least an hour before bed.
The tea can be part of a lovely bedtime routine. Contact me if you want more assistance!
Maybe the peel can be chopped finely before boiling for maximum exposure to the good elements in the peel?
Thank you
If you are able to strain it after chopping, sure!
Can you add lemon juice to it?
I think orange would be my citrus of choice. The sleep tea has a spicy flavor and orange would compliment it beautifully.
Can I add honey to it
My suggestion is to make the tea and then decide if you need honey, which has a high glycemic index. I like to add cinnamon for flavor and a natural sweetness.
Thanks for your presentation on banana peel tea for better sleeping. Last night was my first night trying the tea .can’t say it help much. woke up 3 hours later and then 3 more after. how long does it take to obtain positive results. Have been fighting with insomnia for decades ,tried all sorts of meds that didn’t really work other than get addicted to them . Selvage is also very painful….being sais, i will give it a try your formula and let you know how it and let you know how I make out .If it does ,I promise you, I will tell everyone I know and spread the word around as there are many with this issue.
I live in Canada. thanks for sharing this miracle remedy , which I hope it is.
mona friolet I’d be interested to hear if it worked for you? I have the exact same issue and I’ve only found one script that works but I want all-natural if I can. Please do update if you are able to 🙂
Hi I read that banana peal tea helps with swollen ankles when you cut off ends off an organic banana then boil in 3 cups of water for 15 minutes. Do you believe to be possible is is the recipe correct. Thank you
Maybe! It certainly can’t hurt to give it a try and let us know if this recipe helps at all.
I have not seen this problem addressed anywhere, but boiling the banana peels has discolored by All-Clad stainless steel pots brown! It does not clean off. Has anyone else had this problem, what causes it, and how do you address it? I’ve been making the tea for several months and though it does not make a significant difference in sleep, my leg cramp problem has improved, but the pot remains a mystery–google turns up nothing. Any thoughts from anyone?
Once you bring it to a boil, do you continue to boil for the 10 minutes or turn it off and let it steep?
Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
I’ve tried 1Omg time released melatonin and still wake up I the middle of the night. Eating a banana before bed and drinking the boiled peel tea has kept me asleep thru the night, thank you!😊🙏
It’s a constant tweaking to get the sleep right. I love that you added a little night snack to keep your blood sugar stable through the night. Instead of melatonin try magnesium glycerinate 400-600mg before bed. Melatonin is a hormone and magnesium is a mineral. Let me know how it goes
Any idea if this would work with a plantain?
Hi Julie,
Great question about swapping out plantain peels for banana peels.
Yes, plantain peels can be used and are equally beneficial to banana peels when made into sleep tea due to their high potassium level. Be sure to use organic plantains and to wash the peels first. I love the spiced banana peel sleep tea recipe best.
Eat Well. Be Well.
